On arrival at the ward I was suited and booted and allotted my bed. I saw many doctors over the next two weeks and they couldn't decide what treatment to give me. My x-rays showed a small shadow on my pubic bone and they could not decide whether the cancer had escaped from the prostate gland,or it was arthritis, they are still not sure today!
The doctors eventually decided to put me on hormone treatment to reduce my testosterone, ( it was probably obvious to them that I was a hot blooded randy male with more than my share of male testosterone,by observing my flirting and eyeing up the nurses over my 2 week hospital stay ! lol ) The doctors said they would send me home catheter and all whilst they arranged further outpatient tests. So a biopsy would be arranged to determin if I had cancer or an enlarged prostate. My bladder had stretched apparently due to the amount of urine I had been retaining over a long period, the doctor said it was like a blown up baloon that had been let down slowly over a long time and was all stretched and wrinkled! He said it may not shrink back to normal ever,it seems ok now over 3 years later.
My PSA on going into hospital was 107 and my gleason score was 9, 4+5 , a renal count was over 800 but I can't remember what it was called I only know another few days of ignoring my symptons and I would of had complete renal failure!
The final day of my stay in hospital the doctors came to see me and said from the results of my x-rays and MRI scan they could see a small shadow on the right side of my pubic bone and they wer'nt sure if it was arthritis or that the cancer had escaped the prostate gland! They could not decide how to treat my cancer, so they said they would put me on Zoladex hormone treatment and a dose of hormone tablets till the Zoladex injection took effect. They released me catheter still atached with dates for follow up outpatient appointments.
